What's it all about?

In March 2008, I purchased a set of the complete works of Ludwig van Beethoven. Count 'em, 85 CDs. I slowly started making my way through them. And then the other day it occurred to me that this is a relatively rare experience that might be worth documenting, just for the heck of it.

I am not a musician. I don't play any instrument. I can't read music. I'm just a regular guy who loves classical music.

I already know a lot of Beethoven. The symphonies, of course, and overtures, and his piano concertos and sonatas. But there's an awful lot that I'm unfamiliar with.

This blog will attempt to document my thoughts and reactions to all of Beethoven's works, one CD at a time. There will probably be some digressions along the way, too. Come along, won't you?
